Burlesque Festival Adventures & Holiday Party

The Montreal Burlesque Festival passed so quickly this weekend and what a blast!  I had so much fun working with all the Montreal & International performers as well as the amazing team that worked so hard behind the scenes.  A big thank you to Scarlett James for bringing me in on the production! It makes it all worth the long hours putting together the show when you get to see such a polished product.  I’m really looking forward to working on the next big show!  Here are a few behind the scene photos of the festival.  We had an amazing pre-festival dinner at Atame and all night dance parties at the Wiggle Room for the after party.

I’m not doing a christmas party at the studio this year, but I am throwing a party at Atame, Montreal’s hottest new Aphrodisiac restaurant this Saturday, Dec 14th. Come to our naughty Winter Wonderland with burlesque by Miss SugarpussLou Lou la Duchesse de Rière.  There will be amazing give aways if you make our naughty list including a gift certificate for an aphrodisiac dinner for 2 at Atame, and something naughty from Il Bolero.  There will also be a private photo booth if you want to steal a kiss with your lover and a chocolate bar to tease your tongue.

Baby it’s cold outside
The weather outside is so sinful,
And Atame is so sensual
And since there’s bubbly a plenty,
Let it flow, let it flow let it flow

We will be waiting under the mistletoe,
We just want you here tonight,
With every sip we take,
Make our wish come true,
All we want this holiday season is you….

Entering the World of Bulesque

I’ve been part of the burlesque scene for many years, photographing the performers, creating posters for their events and attending the shows.  I’ve always enjoyed helping out behind the scenes as much as possible and I call many of the performers good friends.  My grandmother used to be a showgirl in New York so I think the love of the stage rubbed off on me.  Although I never wanted to be a performer, I have great respect for the art of the tease and how burlesquers create a world of fantasy and glamour.   So  when 2 big opportunities were presented to me in August, I was very excited to accept them.  It’s really true what they say when one door closes another one opens.

Scarlett James

Being very close friends with Scarlett James, I traveled with her to Atlantic City to see her show at the Borgata Hotel.  On our limo ride from the Airport, we shared great stories about the Burlesque scene in Montreal and how much it has grown in the past 5 years.  And over the course of many conversations throughout our weekend, we realized how great it would be to work together on the 5 year anniversary show of the Montreal Burlesque Festival.  So now I’m happy to announce that I will be partnering with Scarlett James to put on an incredible Burlesque Festival that will truly be amazing.

When I arrived back in Montreal, I went by the Wriggle Room to help them with set-up & clean-up for their big club opening; I was doing some random painting and fabric stapling (very important work), just to lend an an extra hand.  Jeremy Hechtman and I have been working together for several years on posters for his Mainline Theatre shows and well as the Montreal Fringe Festival.  I was very excited that a burlesque cabaret club was finally opening in Montreal, and I wanted to do everything I could to help out.  One of the times I dropped in, Jeremy asked how I would feel about producing the Signature Saturday Burlesque Show at the Wriggle Room.  It totally caught me off guard but I said, sure, why not!  One month later, with sold out shows every weekend, I’m now officially working for the Wriggle Room producing and promoting many of the upcoming Burlesque shows.

It’s been an exciting time of change and transition but I’m just loving all the adventures and challenges it’s bringing. I am still doing photography but more for commercial clients and large scale concept shoots.  I plan on offering some private shoots in the next couple of months which I will launch soon.  Until then, please come on out and see the shows!  The Wiggle Room is a very glamorous, intimate affair while the Montreal Burlesque Festival is a grand showcase of the best burlesque has to offer.

As some of you know, Christelle Souverbie, our talented make-up artist, was chosen to be a Summum model for their swimsuit edition.  She spent a beautiful week in Jamaica shooting and came back with some amazing memories and one hell of a tan!  She looks super hot in all her swimsuit photos, definitely worth checking out the magazine.  There was a camera crew that followed all the behind the scene moments of the girls and the Summum TV series was created.  When everyone came back to Quebec, they followed all the girls in their lives and followed Christelle to the studio for a shoot!

Here’s Christelle talking about her work, the studio and the fitness competition she did this past fall!  You also get to see some behind the scenes of a pin-up photoshoot of the show’s host, Amélie Paul, as well as Christelle.  I have to admit I didn’t realize they were going to show so much of me posing (deep blush) and please forgive my french, literally.  I try, I really do.
